A simple example

Here is the shortest possible Shashin shortcode, which will use defaults for everything:

Since I didn’t specify any photo IDs, it simply gets the first photos it finds in the Shashin database. It creates a display of photos identical to this shortcode, which spells out all the defaults (the default limit is editable on the Shashin Settings menu).

Photo and video examples

This shows 2 photos that have specific IDs, with captions, and in the order listed (the order you list the IDs is the default order). Note you can use the Shashin media browser in the post editor to find your photos, which is easier than looking up the ID numbers.

This shows the 2 pictures specified, in reverse alphabetical order by filename. Also, note the size I picked is not a size supported by Picasa. Shashin will use the closest, smaller size that is valid.

The following is intended for use with videos (and works with regular photos too). Often the video thumbnail generated by Picasa is not very good (or is just a black image). This allows you to swap in a different image for a thumbnail. The first image (ID 432) works normally – it’s for a video, but Picasa generated a plain black thumbnail. The second image links to the same video, but has another image (ID 433) substituted as its thumbnail. It shows the caption for the video.

Examples showing all the photos in an album

One of the most visible improvements with Shashin 3 is that you can navigate through the photos of an album, while staying on the same page (this is done with jQuery). Here is an example. This will show all the photos from the album with ID 66 (my recent trip to Seattle), in 3 columns, with photo size 160×160, no captions, and in the order used on Picasa. Note you can use the Shashin media browser in the post editor to find your albums.

Album examples

An improvement with Shashin 3 is there are now multiple sizes available for displaying the album thumbnails. In this example the size will be 300 (medium). If there is a location indicated for the album in Picasa, Shashin will link to the coordinates in a Google Maps icon in the caption.

When you click an album thumbnail, its photos are displayed in place of the album thumbnails, without the page reloading (using jQuery).

For photos, the captions are off by default, but with albums, they are on by default. You can turn them off:
