Hi: Why is it so complicated? Also, I understand there is a much (relatively) simpler Japanese alphabet, something like katakana, or thereabouts. Finally, if Doug McArthur had used his influence, Japanese kids would be blessing him every day, and Japan would be using Roman script: Just 26 letters in the alphabet.
