About
I’ve been a web applications developer for 12 years now, specializing in LAMP environments (but also plenty of Oracle – LAOP?). I occasionally blog about programming techniques, especially for WordPress. I’ve also tried my hand at being a project manager, entrepreneur, construction worker, DJ, ABD political science grad student, college teacher, surfer, and gearhead. So I’m sort of like all the Village People rolled into one… well, maybe not. I’ve worked for, among others, Ask Jeeves, E-Trade, Georgetown U, Stanford U, and currently U Penn.
I hail from Newport, Rhode Island, and I’ve also lived in CA, DC, VA, PA and Tokyo. I’ve driven coast-to-coast across the US four times, including a 3 week trip with my wife and then 2 year old son (Kai, now 7). I’ve spent at least a little time in all but 7 of the 50 states.
After moving to PA in 2003, my wife Maria and I bought a “contractor’s dream” house that has kept me busy with home improvement projects. And we had another son, Eidan, now 3. I use my blog to keep family and friends up to date on our travels and other family adventures. In 2007 we had a fantastic experience living in Tokyo for six months.
