Young Avengers and Runaways was like a weird Civil war tie in thing which wasn't that good. The Young Avengers series was supposed to be very good but I never read it.

Runaways is excellent. It's a Brian K. Vaughn creation (Y the Last Man, Ex-Machina) and he wrote it all until the last three issues when Whedon took over. I highly recommend picking up the trades.

Y the Last Man is also great but don't start on the monthlies now as they are winding down for the finale. I wonder who will finish first Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk or Miller's run of All Star Batman. Miller is currently in the lead.

Do you mean the Young Avengers and Runaways series? I haven't checked that one out yet. Maybe in his spare time Whedon can take over finishing Hulk vs. Wolverine ;-)

Ultimate Tony Stark is very much a playboy who likes things that go boom. As they have been doing with all of their movies Marvel is probably inter mixing elements from traditional continuity with Ultimate continuity, but then again it's not like Marvel cares about continuity anyways.

And don't even get me started in the Ultimates-fication of the main marvel universe through Millar's Civil War. I'm just glad the Hulk is back to deux ex-machina everything back into shape. Only thing Marvel does lately that I find of any interest is Runaways, and now that Whedon has taken it over I'm sure I'm doomed to only see 3 issues of it a year.

Most of the trailer was taken from the Comic-con footage, where there was an audience of six thousand fanboys who wanted to see some wise cracking, butt kicking, mindless action. :-)

I think that Favreau is going to use the pre-personality to set up a big counterpoint to the weighty tone of the movie later. From what I've read and from speaking to him personally, I don't think he's going to give us an empty popcorn movie. :-)

Best,

Vic

Hey Vic. I hope you're right about Stark's character. AFAIK, there's never been anything in the comics indicating he underwent a significant personality change as a result of his injury, but there'd be nothing wrong with them adding that kind of dimension in the film.

Usually movie trailers provide a pretty good sense of the movie (or, at least, the good parts of the movie). The marketers are generally good at zeroing in on their target demographic. In this trailer I don't see much more than a typical Hollywood wise cracking, butt kicking, mindless action movie. Of course there are exceptions - the ads for Iron Giant come to mind. If we're lucky this is one of those exceptions.

Ok, now you ARE aware that the conversation you so lovingly highlight takes place in the comic AFTER Stark has been through the experience of being captured/injured/etc., right?

The snarky Stark in the trailer is the guy who exists BEFORE his life altering event. I have no doubt that the post-Afghanistan Stark will be more like the guy shown above.
